Light wood plantation shutters spanning a wide window behind a sectional sofa, louvers tilted open to the pool

Plantation shutters ยท Miami Dade County

Shutters are the only treatment that adds value to the house.

Hardwood and moisture-proof poly louvers, built to your opening rather than trimmed to fit it. They tilt for light, fold back for the view, and they stay with the property.

How much light do you want

Louvers give you a dial, not a switch.

A shade is up or down. A shutter tilts, so you can hold privacy and daylight at the same time. Drag the handle to see how far that goes.

  • Panels folded back

Hinged panels fold off the glass entirely, so on a good day the window is simply open. No shade does this, and it is the reason shutters suit a view you actually use.

  • Louvers open

Tilted flat, the louvers let the daylight and the breeze straight through while the frame still reads as part of the architecture. This is where most people leave them.

  • Half tilt

The setting a shade cannot do. Angle the louvers down and you keep bright ambient light while nobody at street level, or in the tower opposite, can see in.

  • Louvers closed

Shut tight the room goes properly dim and the hard afternoon heat stops coming through the glass. Not a blackout in the bedroom sense, but close, and it insulates as well.

What to get right

Shutters live in the opening for twenty years. Measure accordingly.

They are the least forgiving treatment we install, because a shutter cannot be adjusted after the fact the way a shade can. These are the decisions that matter.

  • Louver size

Wider louvers mean fewer of them, so more view through the opening and a cleaner look. Narrower louvers suit small windows and older architecture. It changes the whole feel of the room.

  • Hardwood or poly

Hardwood is lighter and takes a finer finish. Poly does not warp, swell or discolour, which is why it belongs anywhere near a bathroom, a kitchen or salt air.

  • How it is divided

A wide opening needs a mid rail or a divider so the louvers do not sag, and you choose where that line falls. Put it at seated eye level and it works with the room instead of cutting across it.

  • How the panels move

Hinged, bi-fold or bypass. On a slider or a French door this decides whether the door still opens comfortably, and it is the thing most often got wrong.

Why Rollx

Anyone can hang a shade. Getting it right the first time is the job.

Louver size, material, divider placement and panel action, all decided at the opening rather than on an order form.

  • Expert window treatment specialists

Not a general contractor with a fabric book. Consultants who do this and only this, every day, across South Florida.

  • In stock installs in 2 to 3 days

Stocked fabrics and mechanisms are measured, made and hung within days, not the eight weeks a custom-only shop quotes.

  • Free in-home estimate

We measure in your light, against your floors and your walls. Colour decisions made on a showroom screen are the ones people regret.

  • Endless customizations

Fabric, weave, openness, colour, hardware, cassette, motor and control. Every part of the specification is yours to set.

  • One stop design and build

One team designs the treatment, makes it and installs it, so nobody can blame the other trade when something does not line up.

  • Made in the U.S.A.

Fabrication happens here, which is why a remake or an adjustment takes days instead of a container ship.

  • Premium quality and luxury finishes

The same specification we install for Armani, Prada and Tiffany goes into a three-window living room.

  • Family owned and operated

Showrooms in Hollywood and Jupiter, owners who answer for the work, and a name that stays on the job.

How it goes

From the first measurement to the final reveal.

Four visits at most, and the same team the whole way through. Nobody hands you off.

  1. 01

    We measure

A consultant comes to you, measures every opening and watches how the light actually moves through the room across the day.

  2. 02

    You choose

Fabrics, weaves, colours and mechanisms in your own light, next to your own floors, with the price on the spot.

  3. 03

    We build

Made to your measurements in our own workroom. In-stock fabrics are ready to hang in two to three days.

  4. 04

    We install

Our installers hang, level and program every treatment, then walk you through the controls before they leave.

Tested and certified

The paperwork a building asks for.

Commercial jobs and condo boards ask what the fabric is rated to before they approve it. Ours carries the marks, which is why the same specification passes in a tower lobby and a bedroom.

Before you book

Shutter questions.

Hardwood or poly?
Poly anywhere there is moisture or salt air, so bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and anything close to the water. Hardwood where you want the lightest panel and the finest paint or stain finish. In a coastal South Florida home we specify a mix through the same house all the time.
What louver size should I pick?
Larger louvers give more open view and a cleaner, more contemporary look, and they suit big modern openings. Smaller louvers suit small windows and traditional architecture. We will hold both against your opening at the estimate, because the difference is obvious in person and invisible in a brochure.
Do shutters work on sliding glass doors?
Yes, with a bypass or bi-fold track so the panels move clear of the doorway. This is the detail that decides whether the door is still pleasant to use every day, so tell us how the door is actually used.
Are they worth more than shades?
They cost more up front and they take longer to build, but they are a permanent fixture that stays with the property, they need no replacing when a fabric dates, and they insulate the glass. On a house you plan to keep, that maths usually works.
Can you do arches, bays and odd shapes?
Yes. Bays, corners, arches and angled tops are all made to a template taken at your opening. Specialty shapes take longer to build, so raise them early and we will plan the schedule around them.
How do I clean them?
A dry microfibre cloth or a vacuum brush along the louvers. Poly can be wiped with a damp cloth. There is no fabric to shrink, stain or fade, which is a large part of why people choose them.
How long do shutters take?
They are made to order, so they take longer than an in-stock roller shade. Your consultant gives you the real build and install date at the estimate. If you need immediate coverage in the meantime, we can hang shades first.
