How much light do you want

One button turns a hot deck into a room.

Outdoor mesh is rated by how much sun it stops. Drag the handle to see what each level gives you and what it costs you in view.

Large motorized outdoor screens lowered across a poolside lanai on a South Florida home
  • Retracted

Rolled up into the cassette and out of sight. The point of a motorized screen is that it is only there when the weather makes it worth being there.

  • Open mesh

A loose weave that knocks the glare down and takes the edge off the heat while you still see the water, the garden and the pool clearly through it.

  • Solar mesh

The usual choice for a west-facing lanai. It stops most of the direct sun and a serious amount of heat, and cuts the wind, so the furniture is usable at four in the afternoon.

  • Privacy or clear vinyl

A dense mesh closes the space off from the neighbours entirely. Clear vinyl does the opposite: it keeps the view and the light while blocking wind and rain, which turns a lanai into a genuine three-season room.

What to get right

Outdoor screens fail for structural reasons, not fabric ones.

A screen that lives outside in South Florida takes sun, salt and wind every day. What keeps it working is decided at the measure, before anything is ordered.

  • What it mounts to

The header carries real load in a gust. A solid soffit is straightforward, a pergola or an open frame needs checking, and that check happens on site rather than over the phone.

  • Side retention

Side channels or a cable system hold the edges so a breeze does not lift the screen and beat it against the frame. Without retention, a wide screen has a short life.

  • Wind sensors and limits

A wind sensor retracts the screen automatically before a squall gets to it. On a coastal property that single component is what makes the difference between a long life and a warranty claim.

  • Mesh against orientation

West and south exposures need a tighter solar mesh. A shaded north-facing terrace can run an open weave and keep the whole view.

Why Rollx

Anyone can hang a shade. Getting it right the first time is the job.

Mount, retention, sensor and mesh, specified for the exposure your patio actually has.

  • Expert window treatment specialists

Not a general contractor with a fabric book. Consultants who do this and only this, every day, across South Florida.

  • In stock installs in 2 to 3 days

Stocked fabrics and mechanisms are measured, made and hung within days, not the eight weeks a custom-only shop quotes.

  • Free in-home estimate

We measure in your light, against your floors and your walls. Colour decisions made on a showroom screen are the ones people regret.

  • Endless customizations

Fabric, weave, openness, colour, hardware, cassette, motor and control. Every part of the specification is yours to set.

  • One stop design and build

One team designs the treatment, makes it and installs it, so nobody can blame the other trade when something does not line up.

  • Made in the U.S.A.

Fabrication happens here, which is why a remake or an adjustment takes days instead of a container ship.

  • Premium quality and luxury finishes

The same specification we install for Armani, Prada and Tiffany goes into a three-window living room.

  • Family owned and operated

Showrooms in Hollywood and Jupiter, owners who answer for the work, and a name that stays on the job.

How it goes

From the first measurement to the final reveal.

Four visits at most, and the same team the whole way through. Nobody hands you off.

  1. 01

    We measure

A consultant comes to you, measures every opening and watches how the light actually moves through the room across the day.

  2. 02

    You choose

Fabrics, weaves, colours and mechanisms in your own light, next to your own floors, with the price on the spot.

  3. 03

    We build

Made to your measurements in our own workroom. In-stock fabrics are ready to hang in two to three days.

  4. 04

    We install

Our installers hang, level and program every treatment, then walk you through the controls before they leave.

Tested and certified

The paperwork a building asks for.

Commercial jobs and condo boards ask what the fabric is rated to before they approve it. Ours carries the marks, which is why the same specification passes in a tower lobby and a bedroom.

Before you book

Outdoor shade questions.

Will these survive a storm?
Outdoor screens are sun, wind and rain shades, not hurricane protection, and they are not a substitute for shutters or impact glass. What protects them is retracting them, which is exactly what a wind sensor does automatically when you are not home.
How much heat do they actually stop?
A solar mesh on a west-facing lanai makes a difference you can feel within minutes, because it stops the direct radiant sun before it reaches the furniture and the floor. The tighter the weave, the more heat it stops and the less you see through it.
Do they keep bugs out?
A tight insect mesh does, when it is run in side channels so the edges seal. Tell us at the measure that bugs are the priority and we will specify the mesh and the retention for it.
Can I still see out?
Yes, with any of the open or solar meshes. You see out clearly, and during the day people outside see very little coming in. After dark, with lights on inside the space, that reverses, which is worth knowing before you choose.
What about clear vinyl instead of mesh?
Clear vinyl blocks wind and rain while keeping the view and the light, so it extends the season on an exposed terrace. It does not shade, so many patios end up with vinyl on the windward side and solar mesh on the sun side.
Can they run on a schedule?
Yes. Motorized screens run from a remote, a wall switch or an app, and can be scheduled by time or by sunset. Add the wind sensor and they take care of themselves whether or not anybody is home.
What if my patio has no solid roof?
Screens still work on a pergola or an open frame, but the header and the posts have to take the load, so the structure gets checked on site. That is one of the reasons this estimate happens at your house rather than over the phone.
